What happens during my first session?

Both you and the therapist will get to know one another, talk about why you are seeking therapy, and discuss the plan of treatment. All therapy is client-centered so there is no cookie-cutter approach to helping you. We want to know about you and your goals so that we can help you achieve them in the manner that suits you best.

How long is each therapy session?

Each video and phone session is 45 minutes long.

Do I need a diagnosis?

Absolutely not. Although we treat a wide variety of mental health conditions and can even assign a diagnosis through our assessment process, a diagnosis is not necessary to participate in Virtual Care. In fact, each and every person on the planet suffers from mental and emotional distress at times. Most of us, however, do not have a clinically significant problem that qualifies as “mental Illness”. Either way, we can all benefit from the insight and advice of a professional counselor at times.

Does seeking counseling mean I am crazy?

Carl Jung once said “Show me a sane person and I will cure them for you.” The truth is, we are all a little crazy and that’s what makes life fun and meaningful. No matter the problem, the only thing “crazy” is not trying to overcome those problems. Fortunately, the stigma of seeking help with emotional difficulties is less than it used to be, but it still exists. Seeking counseling and advice is a personal choice and one that is very, very rational.

What if someone I know finds out I am working with a therapist?

Although you should never feel embarrassed about working with a clinician, that stigma remains for many. The good news is that our services are 100% confidential and HIPAA compliant. We are more confidential than a therapist's office because you may sit in the privacy of your home, your car, your office, or even on top of a mountain (assuming there is phone or internet reception) and connect with your therapist. You will never have to worry about who sees you walking in the door or sitting in a waiting room. Your employer and insurance companies will never know about your medical claim or why you need to leave work weekly for a medical appointment. Just open your computer, tablet, or phone and chat with your therapist via video, call, or text.

Does remote therapy really work?

You betcha! Remote or teletherapy is fast becoming the standard for treatment. Years ago it was considered a “lesser” service largely due to its “newness” and also because our technologies were limited. Confidentiality and freedom from problems such as “buffering” were big concerns. Now, it’s not much different than being in the same room as your therapist and affords many conveniences and savings that “traditional,” office-based therapy does not. Recent studies have shown that people prefer this medium and that it increases engagement in the process. Engagement is the magic behind the therapeutic process.

Can I cancel anytime?

Short Answer? Yup! Long answer? Absolutely! Our subscriptions are month to month. If you don’t feel that you need the service anymore, you may cancel at any time and the service will no longer be billed to your account in the next month. If the subscription plans don’t suit you, you can always pay for individual sessions when you want or need them. They are still very affordable compared to typical therapy fees but the subscription plan provides the best overall value.

What if I have a crisis?

A true crisis is one that puts your safety and stability at risk. If you feel that you are in crisis you may text your therapist, but if you need an immediate response the following options are available: National Suicide Hotline 1-800-273-8255 Or text “HOME” to 741741 Veterans Crisis Line 1-800-273-8255 Or text “HOME” to 838255 Call 911 (for any mental/physical health emergency)

How long will I wait for a response to my text?

We promise to look at texts at least once a day and will reply to you by the end of the day, Monday through Friday.

Will I always work with the same therapist?

Yes. This is important. Many online therapy groups will simply find someone available at the time that you need them. Not with Virtual Care. You will build a relationship with your therapist over the course of your relationship with us.

How is this cheaper than traditional therapy?

Psychotherapy rates across the nation average $90 per session with many practitioners in urban areas charging well over $100, and as much as $250 a session. Insurance, if you have it, will lessen the fee but the copays can cost as much as $50 per session. Additionally, insurance will put limits on the number of sessions you may receive and, outside of the COVID-19 pandemic, might limit remote therapy. For these fees, you will only have access to your therapist by appointment. Good luck texting them with any consistency. With Virtual Care, a la carte sessions will only cost $80 and the monthly subscription plan works out about the same but with the addition of unlimited texting. For a monthly price, lower than traditional therapy, you can have access to your therapist anytime you need them. It's the closest thing to free counseling you will find. You will also never be told by your insurance group that they will no longer pay for you to receive help.

Are your therapists licensed?

Yes. Our therapists are licensed in various states and undergo a rigorous vetting process upon employ. At present, we are licensed to provide counseling in the following states: Virginia North Carolina Georgia West Virginia Alaska (You read that correctly)

Why shouldn’t I just use my insurance?

Although insurance can reduce the out-of-pocket cost per session, there are a number of reasons why a subscription to Virtual Care is more valuable and cost effective. 1. For one, the copay through your insurer may be as high as $50 which is only slightly less than our plan per session. 2. Furthermore, depending on the need for therapy in the eyes of your insurer, they may put restrictions on the number of visits for which they will pay. This means that you will be paying out of pocket for continued counseling (averaging $90 or more), or discontinuing your counseling before you are ready. 3. Your insurance premiums could also increase depending on the annual cost to the insurer. 4. Insurers may require a clinical diagnosis which will follow your medical record with them forever, and your diagnosis may put you into further risk categories that could impact your future premiums as well. 5. Lastly, insurance puts limits on the “type” of therapy for which they will reimburse. They may require face-to-face visits and, if not, they may require that you go to an “authorized” location for video teletherapy that is not your home. Insurance does not reimburse for texting, and you will not find a traditional therapist to provide such a service for free. With Virtual Care, your therapy is in your own hands for one, low, monthly price. Your anonymity is fully protected, and you may reach out to your therapist as much as you like.

Why don’t you accept insurance?

Insurance does not allow us to provide the value and person-centered service that Virtual Care promises. You would not be able to text, and you may not be able to talk on the phone or video conference from your home. Additionally, insurance forces services to be time limited. With Virtual Care, you choose the level and nature of engagement. It is your program.

Is the texting option really unlimited?

It sure is. Text us as much as you want. Your therapist has other clients so they may text you back with answers or responses to multiple texts but they will text you back in the same day. That is our promise.

May I change my plan?

Yes you may. Change is therapeutic! For logistical reasons, it is best to cancel the existing plan and renew with another plan about a day or so before your next billing period for the month.

Is my information protected?

100%. Our platform is HIPAA compliant and we maintain records in accordance with state and federal regulations.

Do you offer sliding scale rates?

Because of the low fee structure, we do not offer a sliding scale. Instead, we offer a variety of subscription plans that allow you to select the one that best meets your needs.
